Homemade granola

I’ve been drowned under comments of people telling me granola is not healthy. I totally agree that the ones you buy in store can be full of sugar and defeat the purpose of eating better. For this reason, I’ve been wanting to try to make my own for a long time. Making your own batch is a great way of controlling what you put in it and still making it delicious :).

I tried 2 recipes and one came out so much better than the other. This is the one I am sharing with you today!

Prep time : 10 min – Bake time : 25 min

Ingredients :

  • 3 cups (255g) oats
  • 1.5 cup (190g) crushed nuts : walnuts and almonds work great
  • 2 tbsp flaxseeds or chia seeds
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp sea salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 mashed banana
  • 1/3 cup (80ml) melted coconut oil
  • 1/4 cup (62.5g) unsweetened apple sauce (compote)
  • 1/3 cup (80ml) maple syrup

Recipe :

  • Preheat your oven at 350 F (180F)
  • In a bowl, mix all your wet ingredients together except the maple syrup
  • In another bowl, mix your oats, crushed nuts, chia seeds, cinnamon and salt together
  • Pour your wet ingredients over your dry mixture and mix well
  • Line your oats on a baking sheet as flat as possible
  • Bake for 25 min (start checking it at 22 min because it can burn quickly) – Let them in the oven until it becomes hard and not mushy anymore.
  • Take your granola out and pour the maple syrup on top
  • Let it cool down
  • Store it in a airtight container in the fridge for days
  • Enjoy!

Served with yogurt or milk and fruits, it’s just the dreamiest breakfast of all. You could add chocolate sauce (chocolate powder, maple syrup and coconut oil) or chocolate chips to this recipe. That’s definitely the next step for us.

Love, Coco
